Thank you for using VocabSaver - Translation Vocab Collector (hereinafter referred to as "the Extension"). We take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how the Extension collects, uses, and protects your data.
1. Data We Collect
1.1 English Words and Phrases
When you select English words or phrases on a webpage, the Extension stores this content. By default, this data is stored locally in your browser (chrome.storage.local). If you enable cloud sync, it will be synchronized to our cloud server.
1.2 Google Account Information
If you choose to enable cloud sync, the Extension will obtain the following information through Google OAuth:
- Email address
- Account name
- Profile picture
This information is used solely for cloud sync authentication and displaying user information.
1.3 AI API Key
If you choose to use the AI sentence generation feature, you need to enter your own AI API Key. This key is stored only in your browser locally and is never transmitted to our servers.
2. How We Use Your Data
2.1 Local Storage
Your collected vocabulary data is stored locally in your browser (chrome.storage.local) by default and does not leave your device.
2.2 Cloud Sync (Optional)
If you choose to enable cloud sync, your vocabulary data will be synchronized to our Cloudflare Workers backend service, allowing you to access your vocabulary across different devices.
2.3 AI Sentence Generation (Optional)
If you enable the AI feature, the text of your collected words will be sent to the AI service provider of your choice (OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, or Google Gemini) to generate English example sentences to aid your learning.
We do not use your data for advertising, analytics, or any commercial purposes.
3. Third-Party Services
The Extension may interact with the following third-party services:
- AI API Providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini) — Word text is sent to generate example sentences. Only the word itself is transmitted; no personal information is included.
- Cloudflare Workers — Provides cloud sync service to store your vocabulary data.
- Google Translate API — Provides translation functionality.
We do not sell or share your data with any other third parties.
4. Data Retention
4.1 Local Data
All data stored locally in your browser is under your full control. You can delete this data at any time through the Extension settings or by clearing your browser data.
4.2 Cloud Data
If you enable cloud sync, your cloud data will be retained until you sign out or delete your account. After signing out, the cloud data will no longer be associated with your account.
5. Your Rights
You have the following rights:
- Delete local data — Delete all vocabulary and settings data stored in your browser at any time.
- Stop cloud sync — Sign out at any time to stop the cloud sync feature.
- Opt out of AI features — AI sentence generation is optional. You can choose not to enter an API Key to disable this feature.
- Opt out of cloud sync — Cloud sync is optional. You can use the Extension entirely locally.
6. Data Security
We take reasonable security measures to protect your data:
- Cloud sync uses HTTPS encrypted transmission.
- AI API Keys are stored only in your browser locally and are never transmitted through our servers.
- Google OAuth sign-in uses industry-standard security protocols.
7. Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. In the event of significant changes, we will notify you through the Extension or update notes. We recommend reviewing this policy periodically.
